Dude, You're Totally Screwed →
New York Times:
On Thursday, Dell reported that net income for the fourth quarter, ended Jan. 30, fell 48 percent, to $351 million from $679 million reported in the fourth quarter of the prior year. Revenue tumbled 16 percent, to $13.4 billion from $16 billion.
Obligatory “sell the company and give the money back to the shareholders” jab goes here.
The Politics of Flash
stevenf:
It’s not a secret: I don’t like Flash.
I don’t like Flash because it is responsible for the overwhelming majority of my browser crashes. I don’t like it because it consumes memory and (especially) CPU resources on my computer for almost the sole purpose of showing me advertisements, which also translates directly to reduced battery life on my laptop.
Furthermore, I resent the way...
The Ten Commandments of Dieter Rams
Commandment 2: Good design makes a product useful
A product is bought in order to be used. It must serve a defined purpose – in both primary and additional functions. The most important task of design is to optimise the utility of a product.
Amen.

Safari 4 Beta Oh My! →
I started reading over the touted 150 new features in Safari 4, and I saw things like CSS Animations and CSS Effects and CSS 3 Web Fonts and CSS/HTML Canvas and HTML 5 Media Support and then my head exploded with joy.
This means I need to recode all my sites to support HTML 5. I don’t care if it’s not standardized yet, this is the future!
Edit: This reminds me I need to restyle...
Anatomy of An Epic Fail
Note: This story I am about to embark on may be long, so grab a cup of coffee before you proceed. This also may be the meanest thing I’ve done in a long, long while, and will surely pay for it in the future, but I feel that it needs to be done.
Now with that out of the way, the backstory: I had been receiving blocked calls on a semi-regular basis for at least all of 2007 (the calls may...
The first nine tracks from the Murder City Devils’ set at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco on 2/15/09. Click the button next to play (or either of the arrows) to navigate through each of the nine videos. Songs are in their entirety. Make sure you watch in HD!
Thanks again to Sarah for standing in the balcony with minimal instructions and filming for as long as my Kodak Zi6...
A Devil's Treat
Because YouTube is being a bitch about uploading my videos as HD/HQ, here’s a taste of what’s to come. [Ed. Note: It looks like YouTube was just taking forever to make an HD/HQ version available. You can view it here: YouTube]. Hopefully once I install Final Cut Pro, do some video/audio tweaking, and export properly (I’m looking at you, iMovie ‘09), the whole set of...
No More Hipster Scum?
I know I’m late to the game on this, but recently Mission District residents (mainly Valencia Street) lobbied the SF Planning Commission and by a unanimous vote of 7-0, voted to deny American Apparel a permit to open a store on Valencia Street.
As much as I hate the hipsters that have taken over my neighborhood (and, like a virus, the surrounding neighborhoods), I don’t get this...
We Don't Make Hits, We Make Home Runs
With this Alex Rodríguez steroids “scandal” hitting the news, I remembered a small point I always made to all the Bonds haters I’ve spoken with.
During both the single-season and all-time home run record chases, I vividly remember watching Barry Bonds constantly getting pitched around. Not a single thing to swing at. Normal baseball procedures went out the window. Walk the...
Banner Ads That Make No Sense
I think what this banner ad is saying is that, if you are a unicorn and your credit score is deemed “excellent,” you’ll be able to trade your horn for wings. Also, your face will get significantly larger.
Wait, what?
"Oops"
I think I forgot to do this.

(Title thanks to The Criminals)
Who knew graduating would be so difficult?
This semester doesn’t really seem like a semester. I currently have four classes (two of them I’m not technically enrolled in; I need a total of five), but because they are all pretty late in the day, I don’t feel like I’m actually going to school. That would be a good thing, but I’d rather...
